  • We’re now up to 3 bottle babies here at the farm 🐮 plus, a neat new calf shed for everyone! Sunshine had a bull calf last Friday! All went well and she’s jumping right back into milking like an old pro 🐄It’s nice to have an evened parlor again, with 6 lactating cows to milk! We break from calving now until Jersey Girl’s due date at the end of May 🤠 #rawmilk #dairycows #bottlecalves

  • In the winter we feed anything from large round bales to small squares, from alfalfa to baleage (fermented hay). We source most of our hay from neighbors/friends or scout it out on Craig’s List 🌱 Although grain would up production, we feel that sticking to a natural diet of grasses is best for our herd & milk quality 🌱 Keeping dairy cows through winter is also a balance of feeding the right kinds of hay! To maintain production, we feed a lot of first cutting hay & never force cows to “finish” a bale 🌱 Do you keep a dairy cow? Are you thinking about it? In the winter we feed anything from large round bales to small squares, from alfalfa to baleage (fermented hay). We source most of our hay from neighbors/friends or scout it out on Craig’s List 🌱 Although grain would up production, we feel that sticking to a natural diet of grasses is best for our herd & milk quality 🌱 Keeping dairy cows through winter is also a balance of feeding the right kinds of hay! To maintain production, we feed a lot of first cutting hay & never force cows to “finish” a bale 🌱 Do you keep a dairy cow? Are you thinking about it?
