We’re now up to 3 bottle babies here at the farm 🐮 plus, a neat new calf shed for everyone!

Sunshine had a bull calf last Friday! All went well and she’s jumping right back into milking like an old pro 🐄It’s nice to have an evened parlor again, with 6 lactating cows to milk!

We break from calving now until Jersey Girl’s due date at the end of May 🤠

In the winter we feed anything from large round bales to small squares, from alfalfa to baleage (fermented hay). We source most of our hay from neighbors/friends or scout it out on Craig’s List 🌱

Although grain would up production, we feel that sticking to a natural diet of grasses is best for our herd & milk quality 🌱

Keeping dairy cows through winter is also a balance of feeding the right kinds of hay! To maintain production, we feed a lot of first cutting hay & never force cows to “finish” a bale 🌱
